Get into scommerce with free Facebook storefront appsMarch 11th, 2011 | Posted by in Facebook | General | social commerce
Thankfully there are a few FREE apps retailers can employ and we’ve combed the web to find three of the best.
Highwire.com- Highwire, owned by BuyitSellit, LLC., offers five packages to consider, with its Platinum package being the most expensive at $99 per month. However, they also offer a free “Facebook Only” package that includes no setup fee, no transaction fees, several payment options and unlimited bandwidth.
Small businesses will benefit the most from this package as it only allows up to 100 products to be displayed. BuyItSellit President Greg Sisung said last February, “Highwire now has the most advanced free Facebook stores available. Most other systems offer just a few features or limit the payment options in some way for their free versions. We wanted to give Facebook users everything they need to be successful selling on Facebook, and give it to them for free.”
VendorShop- VendorShop offers a completely free store and the ability to upload an unlimited number of products. VendorShop claims to be already helping thousands of businesses worldwide drive sales from their Facebook presence.
VendorShop’s storefront solution allows customer to complete checkout without ever leaving your Facebook page through the use of PayPal. This is in contrast with most storefront apps that push customers back to your ecommerce site to complete the sale.
Payvment- Another completely free solution is available from Payvment. Offering an enterprise-grade storefront, Payvment claims to be Facebook’s #1 ecommerce platform powering over 50,000 stores. Setting up Payvment is incredibly simple and can be completed in as little as 15 minutes.
Like VendorShop, Payvment allows customers to complete checkout without being redirected back to your website and also allows for an unlimited number of products added through a CSV catalog import. In addition, Payvment’s “Open Cart Network” technology sets them apart from other apps as it enables customers to complete their purchase from any storefront on Facebook.
One other advantage that Payvment offers is their collection of developer API’s (Application Pro When the beta period ends programming Interface). These API’s allow developers to build applications to perform tasks such as adding, updating and deleting products. Access to order history and real time notification of new orders are also possible using the API’s.
Recommendation- All three of these apps are free and easy to configure. While Highwire and Vendorshop are good choices, it’s difficult to recommend them over Payvment.
With numerous front- and back-end features, Payvment is an incredible value while it lasts. Currently in public beta mode, Payvment is offering their product for free as long as you sign up before the beta period ends. No word as of yet on how much it will cost afterwards or when a stable version is rolled out.
Look for our upcoming “how to” article that will take you step-by-step through the process of setting up a Payvment storefront.
